The song also reached the superlative-twenty in several other countries. The Floria Sigismondi-directed video features shots of a paint-covered Pinkish and her male person love interest, expressing their frustrations through contemporary dance.
Background and release [edit]
In Feb 2012, Pink confirmed she was writing lyrics and composing music for her then-untitled sixth album.[two] An early version of the album'south lead unmarried, a song called "Accident Me (One Last Kiss)," was leaked online on July one, 2012, resulting in the single being released a week before than planned.[3] [4] Rachel Raczka from The Boston Earth noted that "Endeavour," the 2d unmarried from The Truth Near Love, as well leaked in September 2012.[5]
The songwriters originally thought about giving the vocal to Kelly Clarkson, then Daughtry; Adam Lambert recorded it, but according to Busbee, he "just wasn't the correct fit." The song was then eventually pitched to Pinkish.[6] Pink's version of the song premiered on radio on September half dozen, 2012.[vii] "Try" was amongst five lyrics videos that Pink uploaded on September 12, forth with anthology tracks "Slut Similar Yous," "Just Give Me a Reason" featuring Nate Ruess from fun., "How Come You're Not Here," and "Are We All We Are."[8]
Limerick [edit]
"Attempt" was written and composed by Ben Due west and Busbee, while production was handled past Greg Kurstin, who besides produced her previous single, "Blow Me (1 Last Osculation)."[nine] Information technology is a popular[ten] ballad[11] modelled on 1980s FM Rock, built effectually two-volume arrangement, whereby the verses are serenity and the chorus is loud, according to Idolator's Carl Willot.[12] [thirteen] Lyrically, it is an ode to taking risks with love, no matter the consequences. It likewise talks about hanging onto one'south dreams and aspirations, even if it means taking risks. "Where there is desire in that location is gonna be a flame," sings Pink on the chorus. "Where there is a flame, someone'south jump to get burned. Only just because information technology burns, doesn't mean you're gonna dice. You gotta get upward and try, endeavour, attempt."[14] The song was originally composed in the key of A# major, with a moderate tempo of 103 beats per infinitesimal. Pinkish's version, still, sees the key lifted to D major – 4 semitones higher – with a slightly faster tempo of 104 beats per minute. "Try" follows a chord progression of VI-III-VII-I, and Pink'south vocals bridge two octave and a major tertiary from D3 to F#5 (harmony).[xv]
Critical reception [edit]
The vocal received mostly positive reviews from music critics, who praised its production. Andrew Hampp of Billboard commented "With a melody reminiscent of 'Whataya Want from Me,' the 2009 hit she penned for Adam Lambert, the unmarried already pairs well sonically with Pinkish's catalog."[xiv] Josh Langhoff of PopMatters called information technology "an ode to romantic persistence over well-baked 'Hysteria' guitars."[16] Amy Sciarretto of Pop Shell wrote, "It's a belter with a soulful phonation, and she sounds like Kelly Clarkson with this song. The midtempo rails finds Pink mourning, lamenting and musing on a relationship that is breaking down at its core. It hurts, but this song is a salvage over the wound."[17]
Dean Piper of Mirror Online wrote: "The stand out runway and an obvious international radio hit is 'Try.' Retrieve how big and fabulous 'Who Knew' was – 'Try' is on the aforementioned wavelength."[18] Sarah Rodman of The Boston World called it a "keeper and an urging-to-victory battle cry,"[xix] Robert Copsey of Digital Spy described information technology as "a carol of the stadium-filling, lighter-waving variety."[11] while Caryn Ganz of Spin called it a "breakup salve."[20] Lewis Corner of Digital Spy gave the song 4 out of possible 5, writing: "Although she may non be treading new ground sonically, her passionate tones and solid determination will go along her chart presence - and rightly so."[21] All the same, Sal Cinquemani of Camber Mag was less positive, writing that "the midtempo 'Endeavour' doesn't button Pink forrad either, and it's marred by singsong lyrics."[22] Greg Kot of Chicago Tribune too shared the same thought, writing: "No one, non even Pink, tin can save lyrics such as these."[23]

It was released on October 10, 2012.[39] It was directed by Floria Sigismondi and choreographed by the Golden Boyz (who have worked with the likes of Madonna and Britney Spears) and stunt choreographer, Sebastien Stella. Information technology was inspired by the Apache dance, a highly-stylized Parisian street performance. "Making this video was the most fun I've always had in my entire career," said Pink. "I never wanted it to end. It's my favorite video e'er."[40]
Pink took to her Twitter page to record her mother, Judith'south, reaction after showing her the risqué trip the light fantastic moves on the clip. "My mom, later seeing the new video... Synopsis [edit]

The video features flashes of color and is heavily metaphorical, portraying an unhealthy, tormented relationship through creative usage of the ii performers' bodies.[40]
Reception [edit]
James Montgomery of MTV News praised the video, writing of it: "Despite the weighty subject thing, the prune also manages to be as restrained as the sinewy bodies it showcases. In a lot of means, it reminds you of Sigur Ros' arty 'Fjögur píanó' piece — yous know, the 1 with the naked Shia LaBeouf — only minus the erudite sense of self importance. This is, first and foremost, a pop video, only information technology aspires to exist so much more than. And in that regard, it is the kind of video that only Pink would make. She is certainly a huge star, and yet, she delights in continually pushing by the restraints of the pop genre. 'Try' certainly works every bit a video, and yet, 1 could also see it being performed on the stage, accompanied by an orchestra. Information technology is big, information technology is beautiful, it is definitely a work of art, and it is uniquely, unquestionably Pinkish. She pushes herself — and, really, the unabridged concept of what a pop video tin be — to the limit, and pulls it off with effortless grace. Your move, everyone else."[ten]
Sam Lansky of Idolator wrote: "Although Pink'south videos are often driven by cocky-consciousness and irony, she plays it totally straight in this ane, giving an emotive functioning that communicates volumes, all while executing impressively acrobatic dance moves."[42] Jason Lipshut of Billboard pointed out that watching Pink and Prattes "engage in middle-wringing physical movements" makes information technology "easy to encounter why the pop star so thoroughly enjoyed the shoot."[43] Katie Hasty of HitFix felt the video immune Pink to bear witness off "her showmanship and physical abilities," adding, "It's very powerful, particularly since both performers hold their own in the give-and-accept of control…Plus the styling is rad."[44]
